How to Sync Mail and To Do Items With an iPhone
If you use both your iPhone and your computer to manage your emails and calendar, you probably want them both on the same page. To sync your mail and your to-do lists, you can configure your iTunes syncing settings under the Info tab, which handles Contacts, Calendars, Mail, Notes and Bookmarks. You can sync to-do lists as notes from your computer's mail application, or you can sync calendar events. Only specific programs are capable of syncing, so be sure you are using the correct version of Outlook, Entourage, iCal or Mail.
Instructions
1
Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB docking cable that came with it.
2
Open iTunes if it is not set to open upon detecting the iPhone.
3
Click the name of your iPhone under "Devices" on the left-hand side of the iTunes browser. It will be in the middle of the left column. This brings up the Summary page.
4
Click the Info tab at the top of the Summary page.
5
Scroll down to "Sync Mail." Check the box next to this option to indicate that you would like to sync your email account. This option only appears if you currently use one of the compatible programs.
6
Scroll to the "Sync Calendars" option. Check the box next to this option if you use your calendar program to manage your to-do lists. Check the boxes next to the specific calendars you would like to sync, or choose to sync them all. ITunes will automatically detect which calendar program you are using and tailor your options accordingly.
7
Scroll to the "Sync Notes" option. Check the box next to this option if you use your email program to create to-do lists. This will sync notes from Mail on a Mac or Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. The notes will appear in the Notes app on your iPhone.
8
Click "Apply" in the lower-right corner to sync.
