Placing Google Adsense on your site is a strategy that will put money in your pockets even if your visitors don’t buy.

However, in the same way you need to be smart about choosing lucrative affiliate programs, you also want to do your homework when monetizing topics with Adsense. Here are some important tips…

I like Google Adsense. It contributes a nice little chunk of change to my income each and every month.

That said, I don’t and won’t follow the lead of those whose sites earn only through Google Adsense.

What happens when their Adsense accounts are shut down by Google? It does happen, and they’re left scrambling to replace lost income!

Don’t believe me?

Try clicking on your own site’s Google Adsense links once or twice and see how fast Google shuts down your Adsense account. (No, don’t really do that!)

Does it make sense to build an entire site around financial products to make a few bucks on Adsense clicks, when you can earn up to $40 for a completed credit card application?

Not to me, it doesn’t.
Use Adsense to Supplement – NOT Replace

I use Google Adsense to supplement my affiliate income, not replace it.

Basically, it comes down to value. Value for you, and value for your visitors.

Sites that monetize only with Adsense aren’t getting real value from their site’s real estate.

Too, it’s important to me that my visitors find information of value to them on my sites, and I do that by offering balanced product reviews and articles on the related topic.

If after reading my material, they’re not interested in the product offerings, then perhaps they’ll see an Adwords ad that captures their interest.

Placing Google Adsense on your site is a strategy that will put money in your pockets even if your visitors don’t buy.

However, in the same way you need to be smart about choosing lucrative affiliate programs, you also want to do your homework when monetizing topics with Adsense.

For example, I was recently re-reading some information about under-represented niche topics with huge markets.

Snake Oil

One of the topics suggested as a winner was ‘snakes‘.

I found that hard to believe, so I did my own research.

The term ‘snakes’ showed a predicted count of 4324 on Wordtracker and the keyword ‘snake’ racked up another 1938 searches, so yes, close to 200,000 search per month show a nice interest in ‘snakes’.

OK, but who’s your market? Kids looking for snake pictures for a school project? People who want to buy snakes? Someone who wants to visit Snake River?

What are you going to sell? Snakes? The game, ‘Snake’? A $10 book on which you make a 15% commission? A $60 poster from allposters.com on which you earn a 30% commission seemed to be the best bet, but how many people want to pay $60 for snake posters?

To me, that’s not enough interest or commission potential to build a site around ‘snakes’.

So, what about incorporating Adsense to boost potential profitability?

Well, search Google for ‘snakes’. See what comes up in the Google Adwords column?

NOTHING!
Look for Advertisers with Mega-Bucks

If you want to monetize with Adsense, you have to pick topics whose Adwords advertisers spend mega-bucks per click.

How do you figure out what those topics are?

Easy!

If you haven’t already done so, open up a Google Adwords account and create a new campaign. Add a list of keywords (one niche topic at a time), then click on ‘estimate traffic’. The resulting page will show you the average cost per click for each keyword.

Make note of the most expensive words in that list and optimize your pages for those phrases.

THAT’s how you’ll really profit with Google Adsense.

Warning! Warning! Warning!

Once you find a lucrative topic that is projected to cost you $36,987.57 per day, don’t forget to pause that campaign, or delete it altogether!

How to View Internet History

How to View Internet History

There are many cases when you may need to check the Internet history, such as accidentally closing the browser window or tabs which you were supposed to refer to. If you are a parent, you might need to check which sites does your child visit on the web. Checking the history of web browsers is very simple. You just have to keep clicking on the appropriate menus till you do not get the pages visited previously. However, the procedure depends on the browser which you are using. For example, the process of checking history on Internet Explorer versions may not be the same as that in Mozilla Firefox versions.

General Methods to View Internet History

There are many ways which can be used for viewing the websites visited previously. One simple method is to locate the address bar and click the downward arrow on its right. A list of the websites visited recently will be displayed. Another method is to press the 'Control' button along with the 'H' key on the computer keyboard. A window will be displayed on the left hand side of the screen, which will sort the history day wise and week wise. You can click on the appropriate folder category to view a detailed record of the websites visited. Both these methods can be used on most browsers.

Internet Explorer

If you want to view web history in the Internet Explorer browser, the method may slightly vary according to the version you are using. If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, you can see the websites visited by clicking on the 'Favorites' button on the left hand side of the browser. There will be categories of days or weeks from which the website data can be viewed. If you are using other versions; you will have to click 'Tools', 'Toolbars', and then 'History'.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox provides a very easy way to view previously visited websites. In the menu bar, there is a separate 'History' option. Clicking the 'History' option will display few of the recently visited websites. But if you want to see the detailed history of the browser, you need to click on the 'Show All History' option. Doing so will display a separate window, which will include the history folders. Clicking on any one option therein will display a detailed list of the websites visited.

How to View Internet History from a Hard Drive?

Whichever website pages you visit on the web, there is a backup created in the computer hard drive. The websites can be viewed by accessing the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder on the hard drive. Double click on 'My Computer', enter into the 'C' drive, go in the 'Documents and Settings' folder, select the username whom you want the history of, then click on the 'Local Settings' folder, and finally click on 'Temporary Internet Files' to find the visited websites. You can also access the link 'C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\' to view the history. Instead of the username, you need to type in the name of the user whose history is to be viewed. Suppose the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder does not have any content, that means the website history has been deleted. If you want to know, how to view deleted Internet history, there are specific software meant for that purpose. For deleted history retrieval, the software makes use of the 'index.dat' file that is not deleted by the 'clear history' method.

These were the standard procedures to view website history of the browser. However, you need to remember that the procedures may differ according to web browsers used.

How to Enable Cookies

How to Enable Cookies

You must have encountered a message from the browser saying 'cookies not enabled' or 'This website required you to enable cookies'. In case, you are confused by what cookies mean on the Internet and have no idea about how to enable cookies in the browser, this article will help you out.

What are Cookies and Why are they Used?

Cookies are small pieces or strings of data that websites save on your computer through a browser, for keeping track of certain parameters relating to your activity on that site or for other purposes. Cookies enable the web page to become more interactive, by delivering tailor made pages to users. The web server which serves pages, accesses cookies through the browser to achieve this. There may be inbuilt programming on the page, which enables access to these saved cookies, in order to deliver certain functionality of the site.

A cookie file, saved by a web page, is essentially a table of values assigned to specific information parameters that the site needs to access and deliver dynamic web pages. For example, when you log into a site, your login name, the start of your session time, along with the options that you select on the site, are saved on your computer through the browser. Information about every log in session can be carried forward to the next with the help of cookies. If you are accessing certain e-shopping sites, then they will carry information in the form of cookies about your shopping cart details.

A web page is accessed by millions of users at a time. If the server saves all user related information on its side and has to retrieve it every time, site may slow down. Instead, cookies are saved on the client computer side itself, which enables speed of page delivery from the server side, while not burdening itself with the data storage task. A cookie can be temporarily or permanently saved on a computer. Some cookies have a 'self destruct' mode and they get deleted, as soon as the browser is closed. So, it is essential that you know how to disable and enable cookies in a browser. There are two types of cookies: 'First party' and 'Third Party' cookies. First party cookies belong to the same site which you are visiting, while third party cookies belong to other sites. Generally, third party cookies should be blocked. Cookies may also contain scripts and sometimes they may be malicious. It is good practice to enable cookies in such a way that, the browser asks you whether to save cookies or not. You can also set up an anti-spyware/malware software which detects such malicious cookies for you. You can also block all cookies and allow only specific sites to save cookies. So, these were some facts about cookies. How to enable them is the part explained in the next section.

Safe Internet Browsing Tips

Safe Internet Browsing Tips

Any time a home computer is connected to the Internet, it is exposed to security risks. Some safe browsing practices help protect the computer and all information stored there from viruses and from being exposed to others. Children should also practice safe browsing to avoid becoming victims of predators and to avoid exposure to inappropriate material.

Adjust Web Browser Settings

Computer users can set their browsers to identify risky or adult-only Web sites and filter those sites. Depending on the browser, which commonly includes Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari, there are different levels of filtering and blocking. Pop-up ads can be dangerous for Internet-browsing children because some ads are pornographic or can lead to other risky Web sites.

Supervise Children

Adults should supervise children browsing the Internet. Children are more likely to give out personal information and a supervising adult can teach them that revealing personal information can be dangerous. Supervision is a good way to teach children about what kind of Web sites are safe and what are not. Children may also inadvertently click on risky or inappropriate sites while doing research for school. A family computer should always be in an area where others can observe the browsing.

Use a Firewall

Home computer users should use a firewall to block digital intruders from accessing personal information. Firewalls are either hardware-based or software-based. Either can provide some protection, though no firewall will block all hacking attempts, so supplementary security measures are recommended.

Run Anti-Virus Software on a Regular Basis

Anti-virus software scans the computer for viruses that may have intruded while browsing the Internet. Viruses can hide in files and even lie dormant for a time and anti-virus software searches files for items that do not belong there. Most Internet Service Providers provide anti-virus software free, like McAfee VirusScan. The scanner can be set to operate automatically so the user is not required to activate it.

Back Up Hard Drive on a Regular Basis

An important tip for home Internet users is to back up critical information regularly. Any files that the computer user does not want to lose should be saved to a disk or flash drive. If a virus infects the computer through the Internet or e-mail, it can wipe out or corrupt important hard drive files, but the effect will be less devastating if those are saved on a disk or flash drive.

Delete Unknown E-mails and Attachments

When checking e-mail, users should delete any items from unknown parties or which contain unknown attachments. If an e-mail with an attachment comes from a known contact, but seems out-of-character or unusual, the recipient should not open the attachment until he contacts the sender to verify its authenticity. Most e-mail providers offer filter options to automatically block unknown senders.

Expose Limited Information

Internet users should try to avoid giving out personal information like addresses, banking information or Social Security numbers. When making purchases, browsers should use a single credit card designated for Internet purchases only. If that card number is stolen, the user can easily cancel the card and report it stolen.
